For those of you who might not know, Anjali Lama is one of India’s first transgender models to walk the ramp for Lakme Fashion Week a few years ago. Not only did she break barriers but she also managed to pave the way for the next-gen and open doors for the transgender community. Born and raised in Nepal, Anjali is a force to reckon with. She’s managed to walk for some of the biggest designers in the industry and has also fiercely graced the covers for esteemed fashion magazines and featured in the Calvin Klein‘s International Women’s Day Campaign. I mean, there’s no stopping this girl and after years of struggle and rejection, she truly deserves to wear her success as a badge of honour.
You have to check out this Girl Tribe video featuring Anjali Lama—it’s so inspiring, I would write an essay about it.
Now that I’ve established what an icon Anjali is, it’s time I give you a little insight into why she needs to be your style inspiration too. Last week, I spotted this gorgeous dame walking down the red carpet at the Vogue Beauty Awards and oh boy! did she look like a goddess! Spotted in a beauteous Bibhu Mohapatra gown, Anjali legit looked like she walked straight-off-the-runway and right onto the red carpet. The gown had a fitted black velvet bodice with a sweetheart deep neck, contrasted with a larger than life skirt that had a high-low hemline in neon yellow. Everything about this look was yum and styled to perfection by none other than Anaita Shroff Adajania. Spearheading the love is love moment for the whole #LGBTQIA community, Anjali has done everything so gracefully and definitely made a mark for a self in this industry.
But if this wasn’t enough proof that Anjali deserves a spot on your list of peeps to follow for style inspo, check out these looks that had me at hello!
